It Happened In Brooklyn

A
familiar plot line, newcomers struggling to make it in show business in New York,
some good songs, and a talented cast make this small 1947 musical work.

Frank Sinatra is a GI returning from the war who wants to be a singer;
Jimmy Durante is the piano-playing, singing high school janitor he
moves in with; Kathryn Grayson is a teacher who dreams of being
a diva; and Lawford plays an upper-class Brit songwriter. Somehow this
group comes together in Brooklyn to find love, fortune and fame.

The songs include the classics -- 'Time After Time,' 'Brooklyn Bridge,'
'It's The Same Old Dream' and a Durante signature piece
'The Song's Gotta Come From The Heart.'

The piano solos in the film are played by a seventeen-year-old newcomer,
Andre Previn. The school setting is the real New Utrecht High School.
The black and white film was directed by Richard Whorf.

The poster is in fine condition. The top left border edge corner
is missing paper, the upper right edge is slightly tattered with missing
paper and the is tape residue on the lower left edge. None of these
affect the image area. The wear on the folds is light with small separations
on the center and top fold intersections.

Jimmy Durante was a product of New York and no stranger to Brooklyn.
He quit school after the second grade and sought a career as a
piano player. His ragtime band played many gigs in Brooklyn including the
Coney Island College Inn. At age 76, Durante began a weekly TV
series with the Lennon Sisters. He died in 1980.
