First came 'Whistling in the Dark' released in 1933 and starring
Ernest Truex and Una Merkel.
In 1941 MGM
produced a remake starring Red Skelton and Ann Rutherford and called it (surprise!)
'Whistling in the Dark.'
Then came 'Whistling in Dixie' (1942) and
finally 'Whistling in Brooklyn' (1943) both with Skelton and Rutherford.
Skelton plays a radio personality called
'The Fox' whose specialty is crime solving. He and Rutherford have been trying to tie the
knot since the first film but the plot always manages to prevent the ceremony, A killer is
on the loose and the cops think it's the Fox. So our heroes with the 'help' of their trusty
driver (Rags Ragland) and a woman reporter (Jean Rogers) spend most of the film running from both the bad guys and the
police.
The climax comes as Red poses as a bearded ballplayer on the team playing
the 1943 Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field. Leo Derocher holds his own playing himself in a
very funny scene with Red.
A: The condition is
very good to fine. The border edge has pinholes and slight separation at
several of the folds. The wear on the folds is light. There is some soiling
just above the MGM logo.
B: The condition is
fine to very fine. The border edge is very clean.
The top vertical fold has some separation and staining on the reverse.
